It’s common when photographers get together to talk about the type of work that they do. You’ll hear people say things like I shoot weddings or I’m a lifestyle photographer or I’m a sports photographer. During a recent conversation, a person who I know as a portrait/wedding photographer described himself not as a photographer but as a family historian.
This past Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing the Bailey family at a great place called the Rawhide Ranch. During my short time photographing them that morning, I kept thinking back on the conversation I had a few weeks back with this photographer. I wasn’t just photographing a family but was being invited into their lives and creating a piece of family history.
